And yes, I fully realize that I am way overdue for a new WordSmith release.  Soon, I swear!!

See you on the other side! :)

almost . . .

The hits keep coming. ha ha  A tiny peek at the new blog . . . almost there! Whatever am I going to do with myself when all these projects are finished?  Why, find more, of course. :)

oh yes, I escaped the rain again

I'm starting to think I have super powers. ; )  I told the mom at today's session that I had been watching the weather all day and she had as well.  Luckily for me, the weather improved and I was able photograph this *adorable* little guy.  Although, I have been known to photograph with dads holding an umbrella over me (well, over the camera! that is the priority). But there was no need for that today and the light at the end of our session was spectacular (see the first shot below).

How fun are these shots?  Here's a sneak peek of little R. for the M. family.  It was lovely meeting you this afternoon!

I love this pensive glance. Or maybe it's bemusement at my antics.

And look . . . the world is topsy-turvy for a moment.

Finally, some Mother's Day wishes for all the moms out there.  Have a beautiful day tomorrow! :)

It's live! It lives! Both of those things. :)

The new site is LIVE at last. Doing the dance of joy here! Hurray!!

Check it out at www.joycesmithphoto.com. You'll find some things familiar but also loads of new stuff--new additions to the portfolio from recent sessions, a special "featured" section which I will change out every month with my favorite sessions, a fantastic new contact page, and more. Did I mention I was excited? :)

once again

Once again I managed to escape the rain!  I had a session this morning and the overcast sky actually made for some beautiful portraits of little F., but when I got to my car at the end of the session I noticed some drizzle.  I have definitely been lucky lately.

Here are a few sneak peeks for the C. family--isn't F.'s hair the best?  Loved it!

Here he is oh-so-proud of himself after crawling across his room.

And here's the big smile he got as soon as his mom scooped him up.

Sitting with dad for a moment.

Then, a photo in an unexpected place . . . but look how well this blue goes with his eyes! Click to see this larger.

It was lovely meeting all of you this morning!  F. was not a huge fan of the grass and I told mom that this brought me right back to when my little one was around the same age.  Here's a snapshot (don't hold it to JSP standards!  LOL) of her that I used to call "At One with Nature."  At 3 1/2 she is still more of a King of Prussia girl than a nature girl. :)

and again I say . . . beyond reproach!

I got the prettiest package ever today . . . introducing our new fine art album.  Details to come . . . .

And the best part--matted pages.  Swoon.  More soon!

Do you see that newborn at the top of this blog?

Today I had her one-year-old session!  Can I hear a collective "aww" and and exasperating "where does the time go?"

Here are some sneak peeks for mom who braved the uncertain but ultimately wonderful weather this afternoon, and a few fun outtakes as well.  I've often considered putting outtakes on the blog for fun, and today I couldn't resist!

Here's Miss E.  As always, her little faces crack me up! Click to see these larger and--hint hint--just a few more days and I won't need to type that anymore. ; )

One of the first shots of the session . . . how lovely of the flowers to coordinate with our wardrobe plans!

Then, a little snack at a fine restaurant, where dandelion greens adorn each dish.  The scent draws you in . . .

and, well, you *are* feeling a wee bit peckish come to think about it . . .

P_sneak_3

but alas, the flavor--and especially texture--leaves something to be desired.

Then, you know that I had to incorporate the quickly waning (sob!) cherry blossoms.

and one more . . . I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

funhouse lens

You know, like a funhouse mirror?  That's what this tilt-shift lens I'm renting reminds me of. Generally used for architectural applications, the lens enables you to tilt the plane of focus.  All my photographer friends out there will know how wild this is!  It's also manual focus only.  Oh, yes, I said manual . . . now manual mode I can't live without, but manual focus? Eep! Let's just put it this way: running 3 year old + manual focus = high comedy.  It's great experimenting and it's quite freeing not really knowing the quirks of a lens and enjoying those "happy accident" photos again.  Here are two snaps from yesterday.  Again, I reiterate . . . manual focus.  Picture my daughter running and squealing, and me furiously trying to lock focus. How I missed those sweet little beeps. ;)

it's coming . . . really it is

The new site and blog, I mean.  Oh, and the new cart!  The new cart is actually here already, but I need to spiff it up and get it all nice and shiny before it debuts.

A little more custom flash work came back from the designers of my upcoming site tonight and I had so much fun seeing it.  Here's a little hint--what's up with these crazy puzzle pieces, you say?  All in good time, I say.

Two quick announcements . . . . First, I am booking late June right now, but just had one spot open up in late May.  If you're still thinking of a spring session, send me an e-mail soon! Second, be sure to remember to vote tomorrow! I'm sitting here wondering when the lines will be shortest, as I will have a 3-year-old non-voter in tow who, Bartleby disciple that she is, prefers not to wait. She prefers not to do a good many things, in fact. ; )
